Cookery and Nutrition at Dovedale
On this page we would like to inform everybody about how we ensure our children gain vital knowledge about how to get a balance of healthier and more sustainable food, as well as application of the vital life-skill of cooking, centered around the principles of good nutrition. It is of paramount importance to us that our children are immersed in opportunities to develop a love of cooking through experience and their own creativity as part of a healthy lifestyle, which is why we are excited to share with you information about how we provide a cookery curriculum that allows children to learn about the main principles of a healthy and varied diet, techniques for cooking and where food comes from before it gets to us. All whilst having fun and being creative!
On this page you will find lots of imformation about the engaging cookery curriculum we provide for pupils here at Dovedale, games and interactive resources you can play at home, The British Nutrition Foundation Healthy week, competitions here at Dovedale, and lots more!
Eating a balanced and healthy diet
We teach our children that how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group. Click on the Food Guide to have a look at the NHS' interactive resource for discovering how to achieve this balance and expores the wide range of nutrient our bodies need. Can you create your own meal using a variety of different foods from the 5 groups?

We are very lucky that our local community are so involved in making sure our children learn about living healthier and making good choices about what food we eat. Tesco Allerton Road are providing each class in Dovedale the exciting opportunity to visit their store and learn all about where food is sourced from and how to choose healthy foods, as well as what nutritional value they provide us with.
