2D - Maths
Lesson: Maths
Maths
We have been doing lots of measuring during the first part of the Spring term and this includes estimating and measuring length and height (m/cm), mass (kg/g), temperature (°C) and capacity (l/ml). We have used rulers, scales, thermometers and other measuring vessels.
Also, we have been recognising and using symbols for £ and p and using our knowledge to combine amounts of money, finding different combinations of coins to make a certain value as well as solving money problems and giving change!
Not only that, but we have been telling and writing the time to 5 minutes and comparing and sequencing intervals of time.
We have done lots of calculations and problem-solving too!
If you have time during half term, you can play some Maths games based on measurement:
www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/measures
(Copy and paste this into your search engine.)
Our first Maths topic after the half term break is 'properties of 2-D and 3-D shapes' and there will be an ongoing focus on number calculations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Times tables
There will be a competition within our year group in the next part of the Spring term that will involve recalling and using multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 5 and 10 multiplication tables. (Practice when you can!)
You could be asked:
What is 11 lots of 5? What is 5 multiplied by 5?
What is 60 divided by 5?
More information about this will be provided next half term.
Take a look at our photographs from throughout the first part of the term!
